Industrial Placements

Industrial placements provide the opportunity for a designated person to work within a group or on a specific project to develop specific skills or expertise.
Industrial placements can be at student or graduate level and can also involve company members working in a university on a specific project.
Placements provide a great opportunity for expertise to be developed. They also allow the latest skills and knowledge to be shared, providing companies with new opportunities for development and progression.
Such placements offer valuable experience for career development and to make lasting connections between business and academia.
For example: An MSc student from the University of St Andrews undertook her dissertation with Howden Group to analyse the petrochemical industrial sector and opportunities that exist in South America.
There are a number of ways of funding industrial placements. For example, a Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP) would allow a recent graduate to work on a specific project for 18-24 months.
