Rowett Institute of Nutrition and Health at the University of Aberdeen
The Rowett Institute of Nutrition and Health is part of the College of Life Sciences and Medicine, University of Aberdeen.
They bring together extensive capabilities and expertise in nutritional research to pursue cutting edge science aimed at preventing disease and improving health through good nutrition.
They aim to provide robust nutritional evidence to guide food and health policies.
Over 90 years of achievement in science into practice.
The Rowett Institute plays a major role in the UK research capability in nutrition and human health and has a long and proud history of achievements which have benefited human health and the agricultural industry. The Institute has shown itself to be a flexible organisation, capable of responding to the needs of Scotland and the UK throughout its 94 years of operation.
The present-day Institute has three major areas of interest which are gut health, vascular disease, and obesity and metabolic health. The aim of the research is to provide a sound basis for improved dietary advice to consumers and also to provide science which can be translated into ways to improve the healthiness of primary and secondary food products for the benefit of both the rural and food industry sectors in Scotland and the UK.
The Institute has grasped the recent opportunities offered by the molecular revolution, and has been supported with considerable investment from the Scottish Government. The establishment of fully-equipped genomics and proteomics facilities has enabled Rowett scientists to fully engage in the study of diet-gene interactions and how diet impacts on the body’s metabolic responses in a much more holistic way than has been possible in the past.
