Diet and Health Research Industry Club (DRINC) - Funding Call

General Information:

A £10M, 5-year partnership between BBSRC and a consortium of leading companies (£1M), aimed at helping the food industry develop products that deliver enhanced health benefits for consumers.

Its themes are:

• Improved understanding of healthier diets - includes effect of food components on energy intake, and how foods might be designed to have precise nutritional properties

• Bioactives in foods - includes understanding of how beneficial compounds work and how health claims may be verified.

The Club operates by establishing a funding pot to support academic research. 10% of the funding pot (approximately £1M) comes from a consortium of food companies (Club members).

BBSRC will make a significant funding contribution and the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council and Medical Research Council have agreed to support research proposals that fall within Council’s remit to give a total funding pot of £10M over 5 years. DRINC will operate for 5 years from 2007 to 2012, supporting research applications through 3 rounds of funding. The third call for applications is now open.
