Interface showcases one of its succsessful outcomes:

CASE STUDY: Optocap Ltd.

PROJECT TITLE: Accessing facilities to support project development.

THE BACKGROUND: Design, Engineering and Manufacturing Service provider for packaging and assembly in the Microelectronics and Optoelectronics industry sought rental of laser facilities to help them deliver a specific client project.

THE SOLUTION: Interface brokered a link with Prof Ajoy Kar who leads the non-linear optics group at Heriot Watt University. Optocap rented the equipment from Heriot Watt and the University group provided training in its use, safety and integration into Optocap's in-house kit.

THE KEY CLIENT BENEFITS: The company benefitted by accessing specialist facilities at a much lower cost than it would to purchase them. The client commented "Thanks for the support on the laser source, this was extremely helpful in moving a project to the next step."

SUPA EXPERTISE: Non-liner optics group at HW has developed femtosecond laser machining technologies (The OptoScribe process) that can be used to write microfluidic channels and optical waveguides/ arrays in a range of materials (glass & polymers) for rapid integration of 3D optics into microfluidic/ microelectronic devices and enable further miniaturisation/ functionality.
