This week we have launched the call for applications to the Scottish Knowledge Exchange awards to celebrate innovation from business and academic teams working together.

The Scottish Knowledge Exchange awards event on 21st February 2017 will recognise, reward and celebrate the achievements that are being made through business and academic collaborations – from social enterprises to technology led businesses, and from rural enterprises to multi-national companies.

We are looking forward to receiving applications by the deadline of 5pm on Friday 2ndDecember 2016 to the five distinct categories which recognise individuals through the skills and lifetime achievement awards, champion innovative products, processes or services, and celebrate groups of businesses supported by academia delivering solutions to industry-wide challenges.

What makes the awards unique are the focus on the outcomes and impacts that both the business and academic teams have delivered along their journey.  The entries showcase “Success from Partnerships” so everyone is a winner.

Preparing an application allows the academic team to reflect on how their knowledge, expertise and technologies often developed from many years of painstaking research can help to support the commercialisation of products, processes and services. For the business explaining how their early stage idea, perhaps developed from a requirement of their customers or suppliers, has been de-risked brings to life the partnership and benefits of working together.

The Scottish Knowledge Exchange awards celebrate the “ones to watch”. For example our Sustainable Partnership Award winner from 2014 Mara Seaweed, the seaweed seasonings company, have continued to grow and thrive. Building on their success of partnering with academia, they broke into the US market this year with their shake-on seaweed flakes. The products have racked up several top industry awards including in the UK food world’s equivalent of the Olympics - Mara’s Applewood Smoked Dulse won a Gold Medal - Three Stars - one of only 141 products to win the highest accolade out of 10,000 entries to this year’s Great Taste Awards.

So who will be our 2017 winners? You’ve got to be in it to win it! Join the conversation and follow the hashtag #ScotKEAwards
