Friday 1st June saw TEDxGlasgow 2018 with the theme of Rethink. And it certainly did what it said on the tin!
This is the first TED event I have attended and it won’t be the last. I was (and still am) blown away by the range of speakers with a huge diversity across topics, backgrounds, nationality - and it was great to see such a strong female representation too!
The day was kickstarted in true Glaswegian style with live band Van Ives who really set the energetic tone for the day providing the unexpected.
Then followed the 20 speakers who covered topics from Astro physics, trans gender identity, journalism, genetics, business start-ups, cancer, comedy, the economy, wellbeing, robotics, managing change, anger, technology, menstruation... I could go on! See all of the speaker details here: http://www.tedxglasgow.com/speakers/
Each of the speakers challenged perception and even when it got emotional there was a real sense of positivity and unity around real opportunities to impact and change the world!
The exhibition area was a hotbed of Scottish innovation with demos galore, including robotics, land speed records, immersive headsets and areas for attendees to feed into research. It was also great to bump into Interface-supported Libereat & snap40.
So, all in all, a fabulous day with lots of food for thought - roll on TedSummit 2019 which is being held in Edinburgh!
