These businesses have been supported by Interface, specialists in knowledge exchange, who connect innovative thinkers to Scottish academics.

Academics from a Scottish university have used the berries from Sea Buckthorn, a bush which is often regarded as a weed to create a new Scottish fruit drink.
Scientists from Queen Margaret University have worked with Borders-based apple juice producer Cuddybridge,to develop a unique seasonal drink using the berries .

Midlothian-based Advanced Microwave Technologies (AMT) Ltd, the winner of two categories at last year’s inaugural Interface Excellence Awards, has seen business boom in the 10 months since its success at the Awards.

A new course is to be launched at Abertay University, in direct response to the critical skills shortage currently faced by the food and drink industry.
Food and drink is Scotland’s largest manufacturing sector, worth £9.5 billion per year to the Scottish economy. New figures show that food and drink exports were up 3.3 per cent in the first quarter of 2013.

Companies partner with Scottish academics to boost growth
To drive research and innovation in Scotland’s food and drink sector, Interface Food & Drink has awarded a total of £75,000 to fund three collaborative projects between Scottish food and drink companies and Scottish universities.
